These calls are designed to appear as though they’re coming from us, but they’re actually from scammers trying to steal your personal and financial information. We want to ensure you’re aware of these scams and know how to protect yourself.
What is a Spoofing Call?
Spoofing occurs when a caller manipulates the caller ID to make it look like the call is coming from a trusted source, such as APCU/Center Parc, a government agency, or another reputable organization. These fraudulent calls can seem legitimate but are actually attempts to trick you into revealing sensitive information such as your account number, PIN, or passwords.
Here are a few ways to spot a spoofing call:
- Unfamiliar Numbers: Even if the number looks like it’s from APCU/Center Parc, if you don’t recognize it, be cautious. Always verify by using a known contact number.
- Urgent Requests: Scammers often try to create a sense of urgency, saying things like, “Your account has been compromised” or “We need to verify your account immediately.”
- Asking for Sensitive Information: We will never ask for sensitive information like your PIN, password, or full account number over the phone. If someone does, it’s a red flag.
What You Should Do
If you receive a suspicious call, follow these steps:
- Do Not Provide Personal Information: Never share any personal or financial details over the phone unless you are certain of the caller’s identity.
- Hang Up and Call Us Back: If the caller claims to be from APCU/Center Parc, hang up and call our official phone number (found on your statements or our website) to verify if the call was legitimate.
- Report Suspicious Calls: If you receive a suspicious call, please report it to us immediately. We can help determine if any action is needed on your account.
- Use Call Blocking Tools: Consider using call-blocking services or apps to help filter out unwanted calls.
- Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): Set up 2FA for added security on your online banking and other accounts whenever possible.
